Once, imagination belonged to humans. Now, algorithms dream too. The brush, the word, the voice of artificial intelligence... It has seeped into almost every field of art. Yet there is a strange silence in the air. Can emotionless creation still be considered art?
Are We Normal in the New Normal?
Without exaggeration, right now everyone, everywhere is talking about the same thing! The topic, of course, is “Corona.” In all of human history, nothing else has united people across language, religion, and geography to this extent.
Without exaggeration, right now everyone, everywhere is talking about the same thing! The topic, of course, is “Corona.” In all of human history, nothing else has united people across language, religion, and geography to this extent.
And the most remarkable thing is this: while missiles can hit their targets with pinpoint precision, information technology has advanced beyond imagination, and artificial intelligence is living its golden age — we, as a nation, learned that the best disinfectant is “COLOGNE.” And not just any kind — the 80-degree one. Unbelievable, isn’t it?
WE ACTUALLY BECAME SOCIAL!
And then?
Then, everything happened!
We began taking precautions and, more than ever before, hung on to every word of our Minister of Health on Twitter. We waited breathlessly for each sentence spoken by Fahrettin Koca. Just like aunts discussing the latest news at the market or uncles debating politics at the coffeehouse, we started gathering on social media, talking about Corona with friends and strangers alike. So many voices! But here’s the funny part — thanks to Corona, we used digital media more than ever and formed new connections online that we’d never made before!
AFTER ALL, EVERYONE IS A PRODUCT OF THEIR OWN GEOGRAPHY!
Meanwhile, “distance” entered our social lives. To prevent further spread of the virus, malls, gyms, cafés, and similar venues were closed, and schools were suspended. But of course, we didn’t give up on having fun. We couldn’t play the accordion on our balconies like the Italians, but some of us blasted Müslüm Gürses songs to the neighborhood, while others composed songs about Corona. After all, everyone is a product of their own geography, right?
Thankfully, Yalın and Sıla came to our rescue; otherwise, we might have completely lost it on those balconies. Fortunately, they gave live concerts on Instagram every couple of days — thanks to them, we occasionally stepped back inside!
